#326. Reader Mail 2026: 'The Event' Reader Mail Month 2026

#326 * Nov. 4, 2026
  1. Zia: "Worldbuilding questions!" "Several people asked what the most common and least common nonhumans were after 'Day One.'"
  2. Chloe, Janice. Chloe (gesturing at Janice, who has pointy ears and a tufted tail): "You see a lot of people who basically just have horns or tails or whatever, like Janice here." "So I guess that's the most common."
  3. Zia: "Furries and stuff are pretty common too." "It's less common as you go mythological, or outside of primates and mammals." "There are about 10,000 centaurs in Los Angeles, for example, which sounds like a lot, but really it isn't." "That's barely 0.13% of the metro area, or only 0.63% of all transformees in Los Angeles."
  4. Zia (arms crossed, beside silhouettes of the things she's describing): "As for rare, the long tail is pretty long." "Surprisingly few mermaids." "Japan and China have a few Asian-style dragons flying over them now." "And then way out on the far end, you got weird things like talking lampposts and energy beings and that one guy who's just a single giant tentacle now."
  5. Chloe: "Related, isoycrazy and Kry11a both ask about how the rest of society is dealing with all of us, which is to say not that well." "Most people aren't that prejudiced, but sometimes you meet somebody who's a little — "
  6. Zia: " — ever see X-Men?" "Like that, only with less POW POW BLAM BLAM stuff blowing up." Chloe: "A lot of people want to pretend we don't exist." "I'm with them, honestly."
  7. Zia (raising a finger): "The world hasn't really changed, though." "More people are really paying attention to the economy and the price of — "
  8. Chloe (angrily): " — no seriously, why not superpowers instead!?" "I could've done a Jean Grey!" "She at least has the right number of legs!" Zia (shrugging): "Because Disney has lawyers, Chloe."
